Mental Health

2022-03-27

Mental well-being can take many different forms, but a common description is feeling good and functioning well. Mental health is an integral part of the whole person. A healthy mind helps us face challenges, solve problems, achieve goals and enjoy life more. A person with a healthy mind is also less vulnerable to certain health problems and has a longer lifespan.

To maintain healthy mental health, there are 3 ways to do, “Sharing to others”、”Positive Thinking” and”Joyful life”

Key Elements of “Sharing to others”

  1. 1. Share the bits and pieces of your daily life with others For example, you can talk with your friends and family about your work to ease your emotions and gain their support.
  2. 2. Establish and maintain relationships with others in society Visit and chat with your neighbours.
  3. 3. Express your appreciation, gratitude or encouragement to others more frequently Say “well-done” to your colleagues. Express your empathy by saying “take care” to someone who does not feel well.
  4. 4. Be kind and supportive to others For example, offer your seat to anyone in need or participate in volunteer work.
  5. 5. Spend time with your family members Having a better and closer relationship with your family members can make you feel cheerful. Share the bits and pieces of your daily life with your family members and have meals with them more often.

Key elements of “Postive Thinking”

  1. 1. Keep an open mind for acceptance to new ideas You can discuss and share your views with others, and reconsider an issue based on your analysis and reflection.
  2. 2. Think about the things you feel grateful for For example, you can recall a happy holiday during a busy working day to refresh your mind.
  3. 3. Think positively while handling stressful situations Think about the sense of achievement and skills learnt after completing a difficult project.
  4. 4. Keep track of your mood changes You can take a rest and talk to someone if you feel very anxious.
  5. 5. Relax by setting aside your troubles and be optimistic Relax and be optimistic. Hold the belief that good things, rather than bad things, will eventually happen.

Key elements of “Joyful life”

  1. 1. Engage in and enjoy activities that you are interested inTurn these activities into your hobbies, such as taking leisure walks, listening to music and reading.
  2. 2. Regularly engage in physical activities or mind-body exercises that you are interested in Some examples are hiking, swimming, running, ball games, tai chi, yoga and meditation.
  3. 3. Be curious and pay attention to your surroundings An example is exploring and savouring the beauty of nature.
  4. 4. Learn something new that you like Some examples are learning new sport skills and learning how to cook a new dish.
  5. 5. Maximise your potential by engaging in activities that can further develop your strengths or talents One example is to take photos of beautiful scenery.
