Seasonal influenza is a common but potentially serious respiratory infection that can cause symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, muscle aches, and fatigue. These symptoms can affect daily activities, work, and overall well-being. For older adults, young children, pregnant women, individuals with chronic medical conditions, and people with weakened immune systems, influenza may lead to serious complications such as pneumonia and bronchitis, increasing the risk of hospitalization and even death.

According to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), seasonal influenza vaccination is one of the most effective measures to prevent seasonal influenza and its associated complications. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and influenza-related mortality. Increased vaccination coverage within the community can also help reduce virus transmission and strengthen protection for families and the wider community.

Islands DHC Express encourages members of the public to receive a seasonal influenza vaccine every year to enhance both individual and community protection. In accordance with local recommendations, all persons aged 6 months or above, except those with known contraindications, are advised to receive seasonal influenza vaccination annually.

As it generally takes about two weeks after vaccination for the body to develop sufficient antibodies, members of the public are encouraged to arrange vaccination before the peak influenza season. Since influenza viruses change over time, the composition of seasonal influenza vaccines is updated annually to match the circulating virus strains. Therefore, even individuals who have previously received influenza vaccination should continue to receive a vaccine every year to maintain effective protection.

Residents of the Islands District who wish to learn more about seasonal influenza vaccination services and upcoming health talk are encouraged to stay tuned to the latest announcements from Islands DHC Express. Information regarding vaccination services and related activities will be published on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Let us get vaccinated early to protect ourselves, safeguard our families, and build a healthier community together.

💉 Prevent Influenza Through Vaccination.
